Country singer Kelsea Ballerini made her debut at the MTV Video Music Awards on her 30th birthday. She performed her song "Penthouse" in an ethereal white dress before doing a surprise costume change into a little black dress. "Penthouse" is featured on her album Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, which she wrote during her divorce from fellow country singer Morgan Evans. Although country artists are not typically recognized at the VMAs, artists like Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, and Kane Brown have performed in the past. Ballerini will be performing a special hometown show in Knoxville, Tennessee on November 2.
