Research conducted by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in 25 countries reveals that providing agricultural subsidies to smallholder farmers can significantly increase their productivity and income. The analysis showed that farmers who received subsidies were more likely to adopt modern farming techniques and purchase improved seeds and fertilizers. This led to higher crop yields and profitability, reducing poverty levels and improving food security. The findings highlight the importance of targeted support to small-scale farmers to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to overall agricultural development.
