Although Depp’s departure was a shock for fans, the latest reports indicate the franchise is set to undergo a major reboot with showrunner at the helm.

. Mazin has already revived the idea for a sixth reboot of the beloved franchise. Disney liked it and got the creative gears turned on, even developing the script. But the project has been slowed down due to the pandemic,  and as a twist to the tale, the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has made the process even more sluggish. Mazin said,

If the ongoing disputes between the Writers Guild of America and film studios conclude, further progress on the sixth installment will resume. The previous installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No, was released in 2017.
