During Tuesday's episode of The Voice, Kelly Clarkson gave a rare compliment to Blake Shelton, who will be retiring from the show at the end of the season. After a teenager singer named Mary Kate Connor chose Blake as her coach, Clarkson praised him, calling him "the king of The Voice." Mary Kate performed a powerful rendition of "Stars" by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and ultimately chose Blake as her coach. Later in the episode, Kate Cosentino, an aspiring singer from Kansas City, impressed the judges with her unique style and eventually chose Niall Horan as her coach. Al Boogie, Chloe Abbott, Marcos Covos, and Tiana Goss also auditioned during the episode.
